69 Degrees South
Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York
Sophie Hunter directed Phantom Limb’s 69 ̊S. at BAM’s Next Wave festival, New York. Inspired by Sir Ernest Shackleton's 1914 Trans-Antarctic Expedition it was a co-creation with Phantom Limb Company and The Kronos Quartet.

The show melded theatrical performance, puppetry, photography, dance and film with original music to create an artistic and emotional journey. The aim was to bring the unknown Antarctica and the subtext of climate change to an audience while reinvigorating the spirit of foregoing individual glory for the sake of collective survival.

69 ̊S. united some of the finest contemporary musical, visual, and performance artists in the world in collaboration to explore the inherently bittersweet and complex nature of the Shackleton experience.
