The Turn of the Screw & The Path to Bly
Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh
LSO, St Lukes
Co-created with Andy Staples

With a formidable cast led by Dame Ann Murray and Sophie Bevan alongside award winning Aurora Orchestra this production was performed in Aldeburgh and London to much acclaim. Inspired by the opera’s images of a cat’s cradle and a labyrinth the visual centrepiece of the production was a densely latticed cube built around the orchestra and the singers.

The opera was accompanied by a promenade experience as a prelude. A literal and figurative journey through the surrounding countryside that brought the audience nearer to the sound world and darkly veiled ‘reality’ of Turn of the Screw. The landscape itself became a playground shot through with an ever increasing and unsettling sense of foreboding as the audience made their journey towards the dark conclusion of the opera.
